Next Generation – Abba Kahu

Abba Kahu is the Sales and Innovations Manager for Whale Watch Kaikōura, where she leads the organisation’s sales operations and manages its marketing, events, and sponsorship portfolios. Born and raised in Kaikōura, she is a third-generation whale watcher with a deep connection to the region’s people, environment, and culture.

Abba’s leadership is grounded in the values of kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga, guiding her approach to visitor experience, community engagement, and sustainable tourism development. Her work reflects a balance of strategic thinking, cultural understanding, and a strong commitment to place-based storytelling.

In addition to her role at Whale Watch, Abba serves on The Destination Kaikōura Board (KITI), contributing to regional planning and long-term destination growth. She brings experience in cultural tourism, innovation, and values-led organisational development, shaped by her lifelong ties to Kaikōura and its people.
