Single Asian Female

ATC is producing the NZ premiere of the riotous family comedy Single Asian Female at ASB Waterfront Theatre, playing 27 April to 15 May. It is written by award-winning Chinese-Australian playwright, Michelle Law. The play has been relocated to New Zealand, to tell the story from a Chinese New Zealand family’s perspective. We are thrilled to be collaborating with Proudly Asian Theatre for this show, which features an Asian female writer, an Asian female director and three Asian female lead actors – a first for ATC!

Single Asian Female is a sassy, fierce and inclusive comedy that follows the story of Pearl Wong. Pearl is a first-generation Chinese immigrant and a single mother who’s barely keeping her restaurant afloat. Meanwhile, her older daughter Zoe has moved back home, and her teenage daughter Mei is kicking back against her cultural heritage.
