China in 2024 – a kiwi media perspective

September 9, 2024

New Zealand has no shortage of media content with a focus on China these days, befitting the country’s significance as an increasingly influential regional and global actor. But with no New Zealand media organisations represented there, experiencing and discussing China first hand is something few kiwi journalists get to experience as part of their reporting.

In June 2024 the New Zealand China Council assisted journalists Sam Sachdeva (Newsroom) and Bruce Munro (Otago Daily Times) to travel to China. Over the course of a week Sam and Bruce explored Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou, to get a feel for contemporary China in 2024.

From discussions with diplomats, business leaders and innovators to self-driving cars and jazz clubs, join us to hear first hand from Sam and Bruce about their trip and their observations on China – the good, the bad and the surprising!

A light lunch will be served.
