NZCC CHINA MEDIA AWARD 31ST JULY
Overview
Every year the New Zealand China Council offers a New Zealand journalist the opportunity to travel to China to research and prepare stories. The purpose of the award is to recognise journalism that advances public debate about the New Zealand China relationship, is fact driven and shows original thinking.
Entry is simple. Applicants need to complete the application form and submit a minimum of three examples of work regarding the NZ China relationship published or broadcast in New Zealand within the past 12 months. The winner will receive a storytelling trip to China, including return airfares, accommodation and expenses for up to NZD $10,000. The New Zealand China Council will also provide the winner with practical assistance in setting up interviews in China. The winner will be announced at the New Zealand China Council Media Awards in Auckland on Thursday, 31 July 2014, 6-8pm, ANZ Centre Pavilion 23 Albert St,Auckland CBD.

Eligibility Applicants must be:

New Zealand based, and;

Working as a journalist for a news organisation or as a freelance journalist
Entries from journalists working for news organisations must provide a letter or email from their employer or publisher supporting the application. Freelancers must provide correspondence to show that a news organisation is willing to publish work resulting from the award.
Entries with fewer than three examples of work will be considered, however preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a good track record in reporting on the New Zealand China relationship.

FAQ What costs does the award cover?
The winner will receive return airfares to China, accommodation, and all travel and living expenses up to a maximum of $10,000.
What other assistance is offered as part of the award?
The New Zealand China Council will assist the winner with logistical travel planning and story preparation including setting up meetings and interviews with New Zealand representatives in China and other relevant subjects.
Are there any conditions on the stories I can prepare?
There are no conditions on content or subject matter, however the principles of advancing public debate and using fact driven thinking and analysis apply.
How do I submit video or audio with my entry?
Files over 5MB in size should be sent using file transfer services such as Dropbox or Yousendit to peter@sputnik.co.nz. Please keep files to under 100MB in size.
When is the travel period?
Travel must be undertaken prior to the end of the 2014 financial year (i.e. 30 June 2015).
What if I don’t have three pieces of work to submit?
Entrants are encouraged to submit three pieces of work as part of their application; however entries with fewer than three will be considered.
Do I need to be based in New Zealand to enter?
Yes.
Will the NZ China Council help me get a visa?
It is the responsibility of the winner to obtain the appropriate visas for travel. Before submitting your application please check the visa requirements for China.
