Chris Metcalfe

Chris Metcalfe has dedicated over a decade to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE), the country’s Trade Development Agency. In June 2025, he assumed the role of Regional Director for Greater China, following nearly three years as Trade Commissioner at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing.

Chris’s international career with NZTE includes serving as Trade Commissioner to Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, and Vice-Consul in São Paulo, Brazil. Earlier, he was based at the New Zealand Embassy in Madrid, where he worked as Acting Trade Commissioner and Business Development Manager, supporting New Zealand companies entering the Spanish and Portuguese markets.

Before joining NZTE, Chris worked as an HR Consultant with the Michael Page Group in London. After relocating to Spain, he founded his own business, specializing in performance coaching for mid- to senior-level executives in multinational corporations. In 2020, he became a published author in the field of employee management and performance.

Chris holds a degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resources from the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. He brings extensive international experience, having lived and worked in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Brazil. In addition to his native English, he is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
