Auckland Event: NZ-China Trade and the FTA Upgrade

We don’t want to jinx it, but finally it looks like we can enjoy an in-person event!

If you’re in Auckland and keen to meet other globally-minded young professionals, and hear from experts on New Zealand and China’s international trade, this is the event for you.

Come along to hear from Dr Antje Fiedler, Senior Lecturer (Graduate School of Management) and Director of the China Studies Centre at the University of Auckland. Dr Fiedler will talk about the wider relationship between New Zealand and China, and what challenges businesses are currently facing with trade.

Lead Negotiator Barney Riley from New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will talk on what trade agreements are, New Zealand’s official trade history with China, and what negotiating the recent upgrade to the FTA involved.

Online content: Q&A with Leonard Hong

We haven’t forgotten about our members who can’t attend the event in Auckland!

We are excited to announce our first On Demand series video. We discuss the current NZ-China trade and political climate, explore career growth as a recent graduate and how young professional’s can get involved in the policy and research space with Leonard Hong.

Leonard is a Research Assistant with The New Zealand Initiative and has written research notes on Covid-19 containment responses. In 2019, he completed his BA/BCom conjoint degree at The University of Auckland majoring in Politics & International Relations, History, Economics, and International Business. Before joining the Initiative, he was a research intern at The Centre for Independent Studies in Sydney working on economic, cultural and global affairs. He has been featured in several media outlets in the past few months, most notable for his research into the of the New Zealand Housing crisis in his report The Need to Build: The demographic drivers of housing demand.
