Strategy Builders for China, Japan, and Korea

Since 2018, the North Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence (North Asia CAPE) has supported New
Zealand business owners and managers through its Strategy Builder programme. Strategy Builders
were originally designed as single-day workshops tailored to help SMEs enter, grow, and more
effectively engage with the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean markets.

In April and May 2020, North Asia CAPE transitioned its Strategy Builders to an online format due to
the Covid-19 lockdown. We delivered four workshops (China, Japan, Korea, and North Asian
Partnerships), with each held over two half-days on the Zoom Meetings platform. All four were fully
subscribed.

North Asia CAPE is now offering three additional online Strategy Builder workshops over July and
August 2020, in order to meet companies’ continued demand for opportunities to update their
commercial knowledge of North Asian markets. Workshops will be facilitated by Dr Antje Fiedler and
Dr Ben Fath of the University of Auckland Business School, with contributions from in-market
businesspeople and other experts.

All workshop sessions are held live via Zoom from 1pm – 4:30pm on the dates above.

Attendance is free, but places are limited to 25 for each workshop to allow for interaction and
discussion. After you register, you will receive a Zoom link prior to the event.

About the presenters

Dr Antje Fiedler is Senior Lecturer in the Graduate School of Management (GSM) at The University
of Auckland. Her research interests include growth and internationalisation of firms, with a focus on
emerging Asia, and employment relations. Antje is a member of the New Zealand Asia Institute and
the Director of the China Studies Centre of The University of Auckland. She is a member of the
Academic Advisory Team of the Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence. Her work has been
published in international journals, such as New Political Economy, Human Relations and the
International Small Business Journal.

Dr Benjamin Fath is with the Graduate School of Management (GSM) at The University of Auckland
where he teaches on the MBA program. He has researched innovation, internationalisation and
growth of NZ businesses for over a decade. His work has been published in journals
including Australian Journal of Management, Human Relations, and the International Small Business
Journal. Based on his research, he has designed and facilitated many practitioner workshops on
business growth in Asia.
