The lighting of the stunning Osmanthus Gardens(external link) is an annual celebration of Hastings’ near 40-year sister city relationship with the Chinese city of Guilin – an explosion of colour in the Chinese-designed garden in the heart of the city.
This year’s festival will be held from April 3 to April 7.
The trees and paths are beautifully lit and large lotus lanterns are aglow on the lake every evening.
The traditional Chinese garden, designed by a Guilin landscape architect in 1995/96, is named for the abundance of fragrant Osmanthus trees in the city of Guilin.
The annual festival attracts up to 12,000 people to experience Chinese culture in an authentic setting.
