Meet the Kiwi student who learned Mandarin and became a pop star in China
Born and raised in East Auckland, Laurence Larson was introduced to Chinese culture from an early age and began learning Mandarin at University, alongside his music studies. He began uploading clips of himself singing cover sings in Chinese and found an instant fan base online. Laurence now lives permanently in China, and his videos have been viewed hundreds of millions of times.
Laurence believes studying another language is important because it opens your mind up to new ways of thinking. He hopes his story inspires other Kiwis to pick up Mandarin, especially other singers and artists who have an interest in ‘heading out East’.
