Belt and Road comes to Wellington
The NZ China Council’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) road show arrived in Wellington on 21 June. The event was co-hosted by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce and attended by representatives from business, key government agencies and the diplomatic community.
The focus of the discussion in Wellington was on the creative sector and innovation, which are two of the four areas highlighted in the Council’s recently released Belt and Road report. Our Executive Director Stephen Jacobi led the panel discussion, which consisted of Colum Rice from PwC, Kristy Grant, Co-Founder&Director of Miramar Creative Centre and Stefan Korn, Chief Executive of Creative HQ. Key discussion questions included strengths of the creative sector in Wellington; opportunities in the creative and innovations sectors for co-operation with China that could be assisted by the framework under Belt and Road. The discussion was lively and interactive. We are keen to engage with any groups interested to be part of the conversation and thinking about how they can be involved in BRI.
More events are planned around New Zealand in coming months.
