NZ China Council grows in step with relationship

September 27, 2017

The New Zealand China Council has appointed Jane Yang as Assistant Director and David Pine as its representative in Christchurch and the South Island.

Jane Yang joins the Council from the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing where she held the position of Public Affairs Manager. Prior to this, Jane worked for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise in China.

At the Council, Jane will support Executive Director Stephen Jacobi and deliver results across four priority areas: catalysing longer-term strategic thinking, informing New Zealanders about opportunities in China, advocating for a stronger bilateral relationship and engaging with China.

David Pine was formerly New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Malaysia and Ambassador to the Philippines and has an extensive background in international relations.

David will support the Council by maintaining contact with stakeholders in the South Island, developing new projects and facilitating visits.

Mr Jacobi says the establishment of two new positions recognises the Council’s role in supporting the growing bilateral relationship in trade, services, people flows and cultural exchange.

“We’re excited to be working with these two experienced individuals, each of whom brings a valuable skillset and real-world experience,” Mr Jacobi says.

Jane Yang will be based in the Council’s Auckland office. David Pine will be based in Christchurch.
