Welcome the Governor of Hubei Province to visit New Zealand

March 22, 2017

The Chairman of the NZ China Council, Sir Don McKinnon, was pleased to meet with the Governor of Hubei Province, Mr Wang Xiaodong in Auckland this morning. The Chairman was accompanied by Council member Martin Thomson and Executive Director Stephen Jacobi.

Hubei (capital Wuhan) lies in the centre of China and is a cross-roads for transportation and connectivity. The discussion focused on prospects for increased trade and investment with Hubei particularly with the advent of direct flights from Wuhan in the future; New Zealand’s experience with agricultural development; opportunities under China’s Belt and Road Initiative; and the need to continue to support the learning of Chinese language and culture.

The Governor is travelling on to Christchurch where there will be a Business Forum between Hubei and Canterbury.
