NZ China Council welcomes Dr Gary Liu

The distinguished Shanghai-based economist, Dr Gary Liu, is making a short visit to New Zealand as a guest of the New Zealand China Council.

Dr Liu is Vice President of the Lvjiazui International Finance Research Institute at the China Europe International Business School. He graduated from East China Normal University with a doctorate in Economics and took up a postdoctoral position at the in Shenzhen Stock Exchange after graduation. In 2002, he joined CEIBS and worked as the Vice Director of the Case Study Centre of CEIBS. He is also a columnist for Caixin and FT China.

Dr Liu was one of the six Economists invited to attend an economic symposium presided by Premier LI Keqiang in July 2014.

“Dr Liu’s visit is a great opportunity to update ourselves on the drivers of the Chinese economy and consider how New Zealand can play a role in China’s future” said NZ China Council Executive Director Stephen Jacobi.

While in New Zealand Dr Liu will be giving presentations and attending roundtable discussions in Auckland and Wellington on the future direction of the Chinese economy. On 26 October he will be meeting with NZ Asian Leaders group and NZ China Council Board members. On 27 October he will address a breakfast meeting of the NZ China Trade Association, meet with the NZ Institute for Economic Research and speak at a lunchtime event hosted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand. On 28 October he will address a conference on the rise of Chinese agriculture organised by the NZ Contemporary China Research Centre at Victoria University before meeting with the Asia New Zealand Foundation.
