Executive Director, Asia New Zealand Foundation
Draper is an experienced diplomat with extensive international experience in negotiation and relationship building.
He joins the Foundation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade where he has worked in various roles since 1991. Most recently he held the role of director United Nations, Human Rights and Commonwealth Division. In this role, he managed New Zealand’s engagement and policy with the United Nations in New York, the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and the Commonwealth in London.
Among other achievements while in the role, he oversaw the New Zealand Government strategy for the 2014 election to the United Nation’s Security Council and oversaw the management of New Zealand embassies in New York and Geneva.
Draper has held several other leadership positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, including New Zealand’s Consul-General to New Caledonia (2008-2011) and director in the chief executive’s office (2005-2008). He previously worked in the banking and consultancy sectors.
In June 2015 Simon Draper was appointed Executive Director of the Asia New Zealand Foundation, taking up the position on 31 August 2015.
